Clinical and forensic toxicology, forensics, drugs and alcohol
Donald R.A. Uges (1947) studied Pharmacy at the University of Groningen and was awarded his pharmacist’s diploma in 1973. He has been Head of the Toxicology and Drug Analysis laboratory of the University Medical Center Groningen since 1976. In 1981 he was sworn in as a judicial expert and he is regularly called upon as an expert witness in court cases. Uges gained his PhD at the University of Groningen in 1982. He teaches Forensics at the Faculty of Law, forensic medicine at the Faculty of Medical Sciences and toxicology at the Pharmacy department as a part-time professor in Clinical and Forensic Toxicology. Uges has numerous international publications to his name, including the first chapter of Clarke’s Isolation and Identification of Drugs (2003). As a toxicologist-pharmacologist, he is also a member of the advisory boards of various international journals and an active member of numerous national and international academic associations. He was presented with the Irving Sunshine Award in Clinical Toxicology by the International Association for Therapeutic Drug Monitoring & Clinical Toxicology in 2003.
