Bruin, prof. dr. Boudewijn de
Boudewijn de Bruin (1974) is hoogleraar Financial Ethics aan de Faculteit Economie en Bedrijfskunde van de RUG. De in Nederland nieuwe leerstoel geeft invulling aan de breedgedragen maatschappelijke wens om toekomstige economen en bedrijfskundigen te scholen in ethiek. ‘De economische crisis laat het belang van financiële ethiek zien’, aldus De Bruin. ‘Denk aan vragen over bonussen, overheidssteun aan banken, of de bankierseed. Maar als wetenschappelijke discipline is de financiële ethiek nauwelijks ontwikkeld. Dat biedt veel mogelijkheden, zowel wat betreft onderwijs als wat betreft nieuwe onderzoeksprojecten.’ Bij zijn onderzoek naar ethiek in de financiële sector, maakt De Bruin gebruik van methoden uit disciplines als de wijsgerige ethiek, de wiskundige speltheorie en de logica.
Wat doen emoties met ons gedrag?
De Bruin studeerde één jaar compositieleer aan het conservatorium, en wiskunde en filosofie in Amsterdam, Berkeley en Harvard. Hij promoveerde op een proefschrift over speltheorie en epistemische logica. Behalve hoogleraar is De Bruin universitair hoofddocent Ethiek aan de Faculteit Wijsbegeerte.
Begin 2016 ontving hij van NWO een subsidie van zeven ton om te onderzoeken wat de gevolgen zijn van herhaaldelijke blootstelling aan stereotypen over een bepaalde bevolkingsgroep – waaronder het beeld van de dommige en onhandige Zwarte Piet.
