Abstract
This talk shows how the remarkably high efficiency of photocollection in photosynthesis can be understood in terms of quantum information processing. Excitons hopping through the photo-antenna perform a type of quantum algorithm called a quantum walk, which is particularly resilient to the effects of noise and decoherence. In fact, interactions between the environment and the coherently hopping exciton can be shown to enhance the efficiency of quantum transport.
