Abstract
At the time of writing this abstract, physicists at CERN are anxiousley awaiting the start of the LHC. Within weeks the first collisions are expected. In 1996 the speaker started working on one of the two main experiments at the collider: the Atlas experiment. The focus of the seminar will be on the experimental challenges that were faced during design and consruction of the experiment. The actual status of the LHC will be presented!
