Introduction

The University of Groningen believes that students with performance disabilities or psychological problems should not be hindered by these problems during their studies. There are various facilities available. For example, students with dyslexia are given an extra half hour to finish their exams, the main buildings are accessible to students with motor dysfunctions and the University Library has facilities for the visually handicapped. In addition, students with a performance disability may be eligible for an extra year of student grant.

Currently, about 10% of all students, i.e. about 2,500 students, have a performance disability.

A staff survey has revealed that University staff are largely positive about the policy and about what they can do for students with a performance disability. One of the most important points for improvement is the information provision. Please read the brochure Beperkt Meegewerkt! [PDF] (in Dutch) for more information.

The information for students with a performance disability may be relevant to you as well. See Studying with a disability  for information about procedures, policies and rights, adapted degree programmes and an interesting film about studying at the University of Groningen with a performance disability.

Please feel free to contact your faculty study advisor or the student counsellors of the Student Service Centre for further information.
