The Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (RUG) comprises ten faculties, the University Office (Central Administration), the University Library (UB), the Donalds Smits Center for Information Technology (CIT), the Nuclear Physics Accelerator Institute (KVI), two museums, the University Teacher Training Centre (UCLO) and the Department of Facilities Management. The Executive Board is responsible for the general management of the university.
The University Council is the representative advisory body at a central level. The Council has right of approval or advice with respect to a number of decisions made by the Executive Board. The Executive Board is accountable to the Supervisory Board, which in turn is accountable to the Minister.
The faculties are governed by faculty boards which are answerable to the Executive Board. The faculty councils are the representative advisory bodies at faculty level.
The University Office has a board of three directors. The Librarian is the head of the University Library (UB), the Computing Centre (CIT), the Nuclear Physics Accelerator Institute (KVI) and the University Teacher Training Centre (UOCG) all have one director.
The faculty boards and the management of the university departments have full discretionary powers with regard to personnel matters. Employee participation within the university departments is exercised in the departmental councils.
‘Management of the unit’ means the faculty boards and the management of the university departments.
