Version control system

What is a version control system

A version control system is a tool for programmers. It offers the possibility to monitor the history and changes in a group of code files. The system is able to track what has been changed within a file, when this has been changed and by which user. It is also possible to merge changes of different users into a new version or revision of the group files.

Subversion

The CIT offers a Subversion system for managing code files. Within a so called pool you will be able to create and manage your own repositories. With Subversion code files will be saved in a central location. This offers reliable storage and a backup of the saved files. For more information please view our manual [PDF].

Request access

Access to a Subverion repository pool can be requested - if you are an RUG employee - by phone or through this form, from the CIT Servicedesk
