Increased mobility has created the desire and the need to be able to work anywhere on a laptop. To meet these needs, the CIT offers university staff access to University IT services.
What is a mobile workstation or MWP?
The mobile workstation offers access to University services such as e-mail and the RUGplanner via the University's wireless internet, using a standard RUG installation on your laptop. This standard RUG installation - which we call the MWP - offers you a basic work environment based on the Windows 7 operating system and a number of applications.
Attention!: This installation is not the same as the UWP. Only laptops with a MWP-installation will be supported by the CIT Servicedesk.
Terms
Before the mobile workstation can be installed on your laptop, the following conditions must be met:
- your laptop must have been purchased through the order and delivery portal of the University of Groningen and should not be a special
- De purchase date of your laptop for an installation of Windows 7 MWP may not be older than October of 2011; For laptops older than this date but with a purchase date after January of 2009, an older Windows XP based MWP is available.
- your laptop must contain at least 4GB of internal memory (1GB for older models with XP)

to ensure proper installation you must hand over the original installation CDs, along with your laptop to the Servicedesk *

you will not be able to use your laptop for a period of two days
Advice
For safe use of your laptop it is advisable to keep a record of and install all updates.

Caution!
Don't forget that all content on the hard disk will be erased. You are solely responsible for the security and backup of all your personal information, software and files.
*If a default University of Groningen installation on your laptop is not possible, the original installation will be performed.
