Conditions of employment

You will find the conditions of employment arranged by theme in the menu to the left. The texts refer to the CAO NU [Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities] and the regulations approved by the Board of the University.

The texts are governed by the texts of the CAO NU and the above-mentioned regulations. These form the legal basis of the terms of employment.

The University of Groningen is an administrative body, which means that the General Administrative Law Act applies.

Although the information below has been compiled with the utmost care, no legal rights may be derived from its contents. However, rights may be derived from the applicable CAO and regulation.

The conditions of employment can also be found via the search engine on www.rug.nl

A number of conditions of employment are different for professors and PhD students.
See the Professor policy and the PhD student regulations
Please consult the
PhD regulations for information about the conferral of doctorates.

The Board of the University has mandated a large number of its powers as an employer to faculty boards and managements, which means that these bodies implement and partly determine the regulations.
This is done in accordance with the Bestuurs- en Beheersreglement RUG (BBR, University of Groningen Administrative Regulations) [PDF] and the Mandate Regulations.

All important agreements made between you and your employer concerning your legal position will be recorded in a personnel file, which is available to you via your unit’s HR-advisor . The file will be saved for ten years after your appointment with the University ends. The file will then be destroyed in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science.

If you have any questions about your conditions of employment, please contact your manager or HR-advisor.
