UTQ registration: brief overview

The Board of the University  has decided that by 2015, 80% of all lecturers must have a University Teaching Qualification (UTQ). Experienced lecturers can use their UTQ registration to prove that they satisfy the following quality requirements:

  1. Design and redesign of teaching
  2. Teaching and supervising students
  3. Testing and assessment
  4. Evaluation

Experienced lecturers can gain their UTQ registration by compiling a portfolio from the material they have already used in their teaching practice, which will then be assessed by their faculty UTQ registration committee.

For whom?

UTQ registration is intended for University of Groningen lecturers with at least five years of teaching experience in higher education. Lecturers who do not satisfy this requirement must follow the regular UTQ programme

Why?

The Board of the University wants all current lecturers to gain a UTQ registration. UTQ registration is not only an important tool in improving teaching quality, it also enables you as a lecturer to reflect on and improve your own teaching. If you notice that your portfolio is incomplete, you can work on remedying your deficiencies .

The UTQ certificate is recognized by all Dutch universities and means you are qualified to teach at all these universities.

How?

Please contact your faculty UTQ contact person if you want to gain your UTQ registration. A list of contact persons can be found under ‘How to apply’. The ‘Step-by-step plan’ discusses all the steps you will need to take to gain your UTQ registration.

The menu on the left of this web page provides further information about UTQ policy, the manual and template for drawing up your portfolio, courses that you can follow, other interesting links and contact information.
