Waarom in Groningen?

The MSc IFM programme focuses on both finance and accounting, deals with real-life management issues and has an international orientation. There is a good balance between theory and practice. You work on assignments that both require research skills and practical insights. Moreover, it is an internationally accredited programme, ensuring a high quality education that meets both the AACSB and EQUIS standards, which only one percent of universities reach worldwide.

The MSc in IFM broadens my academic horizon

I thought it was important for my personal development to take my Master's degree abroad.

The advantage of the MSc in International Financial Management is that it combines two Master's degrees in the space of one and a half years. You take International Business & Management in Groningen in the first semester and the MSc in Business & Economics in Uppsala in Sweden in the second semester. Another attractive feature of the MSc in IFM is that it broadens my academic horizon by providing financial insights under a managerial lens, as well as dealing with all subjects in the programme in an international framework. In the end the double programme turned out to be a perfect combination. In Groningen the emphasis was on academic theory, whereas the programme in Uppsala had a more practical slant.

"Focus on your studies but enjoy extracurricular activities as well."

"The Master's in International Financial Management is broad and offers you many opportunities in the labour market. I was therefore able to sign my employment agreement as a Commercial Management Trainee at Lidl quite soon after graduation. The theoretical knowledge about strategy and management is something I apply on a daily basis in my current job. The financial angle of the Master's also helps me to interpret financial figures quickly. I am currently responsible for one store – opening and closing, receiving and sending goods, personnel and more. At the end of my traineeship I will be responsible for managing the key performance indicators of five stores.

I would advise people to get the most out of their time as a student and not settle for what is average. Focus on your studies but enjoy extracurricular activities as well. While the former provides you with a solid background of financial and management knowledge, it is the latter that allows you to put your knowledge into practice. A great example is the Master's Honours College, a programme that focuses on developing leadership skills by putting them into practice."
