Waarom in Groningen?

The programme is a unique combination of two degrees in only three semesters, in Groningen and Uppsala. It is different from most Master programmes on similar subjects because it focuses on managerial aspects of international finance. Besides, IFM is an internationally accredited programme, ensuring a high quality education that meets both the AACSB and EQUIS standards, which only one percent of universities reach worldwide.

The MSc in IFM broadens my academic horizon

I thought it was important for my personal development to take my Master's degree abroad.

The advantage of the MSc in International Financial Management is that it combines two Master's degrees in the space of one and a half years. You take International Financial Management in Groningen in the first semester and the MSc in Business & Economics in Uppsala in Sweden in the second semester. Another attractive feature of the MSc in IFM is that it broadens my academic horizon by providing financial insights under a managerial lens, as well as dealing with all subjects in the programme in an international framework. In the end the double programme turned out to be a perfect combination. In Groningen the emphasis was on academic theory, whereas the programme in Uppsala had a more practical slant.

"The Double Degree programme adds an extra dimension to the international character of the MSc in IFM. I would advise everybody to study abroad. The main thing I learned during my Master's was that it is really important to have your own opinion about certain issues, but even more important to know how to defend your opinions. Especially once I'd gained more knowledge of the field, the open debates became my favourite part of the programme. I consider the level of this programme above average as it gets the best out of you – so be ready for a challenge.

I found my current job in less than a month because I was recommended by a friend already working in the same department of the company. As I work in the management consulting area, there are a lot of unpredictable situations and I have to adapt immediately to the clients' needs. My current job is actually more closely linked to my Master's than I expected. Firstly, the content of the Master's contributed to my knowledge of the management area: understanding the basic concepts within the field by showing the big picture of how a company is organized. And at a more technical level, it contributed to the knowledge about some of the key tools (management tools, financial tools, etc.)."
