Erasmus Mundus programme Language and Communication Technologies (LCT)

Students who follow the Language and Communication Technologies specialization and spend the first year of their degree in Groningen must take the theoretical module Linguistic Analysis and the methodology module Basic Statistics / Corpus Analysis in the first semester of the first year. The rest of the programme will be designed by each student individually together with the LCT coordinator in Groningen and the coordinator of the foreign partner university. This individual study programme can be compiled from a list of modules. At the end of the first year, the student will leave for one of the foreign partner universities. The rest of the study programme will be followed there and a thesis worth 30 ECTS will be written.

 

Students who follow the Language and Communication Technologies specialization and spend the second year of their degree in Groningen must first take the theoretical module Linguistic Analysis and the methodology module Basic Statistics / Corpus Analysis if they do not already have this knowledge and these skills. In addition they will follow one or more optional modules, after discussion with the LCT coordinator in Groningen and the coordinator of the foreign partner university, and they will write a thesis worth 30 ECTS.

 

Students who follow the LCT specialization will be awarded a Master’s degree by both universities.For more information about the Language and Communication Technologies (LCT) programme and the participating universities, please go to the European website of LCT .

Language and Communication Technologies thesis

The Research MA programme will be rounded off with a thesis worth 30 ECTS. The thesis must be the result of independent academic research. The subject of the thesis must be in the field of language and communication technology. Students will choose the subject of the thesis in consultation with the LCT coordinator in Groningen and thesis supervisors from Groningen and from the foreign partner university. Please consult the thesis regulations for the Research MA in Linguistics for the other requirements placed on a thesis. Additional support when writing the thesis is offered in the form of a thesis class in the second semester.

Students of the Research MA participate in current research activities within the CLCG research institute, and in conferences, summer schools and winter schools in the field of linguistics. In addition, various activities are organized by the students themselves.
