Information Science in Groningen is taught at the Faculty of Arts.

Text, language and digital communication

The Masters programme Information Science in Groningen focuses on theory and research in language, text and digital communication.

It relies on knowledge, insights and experiences obtained in the bachelor programma Informatiekunde and aims at teaching the students to become researchers and professionals in language and information technology.

Specialization courses

Apart from the obligatory research course, the student will choose two out of four advanced courses:

  • Computer-Mediated Communication
  • Natural Language Processing
  • Semantic Web Technology
  • Machine Learning

Students frequently chose one of these three course pairs:

  • Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning
  • Natural Language Processing and Semantic Web Technology
  • Computer-Mediated Communication and Semantic Web Technology

Lab work and internship

Each course includes theoretical work and lab work. The students also do an internship to get acquainted with a possible later work environment.
