Worldwide Consortium

Euroculture

In 1999 the MA Programme Euroculture was launched by the universities of Deusto-San Sebastian (Spain), Göttingen (Germany), Strasburg (France), Udine (Italy), Uppsala (Sweden) and Groningen (The Netherlands) as a pilot-project. Since 2000 the participating universities have offered the programme officially. During the period 2000-2004 the network has been strengthened with new partners: the Universities of Krakow (Poland) and Olomouc (Czech Republic) and in 2008 the consortium started a partnership with four non-European universities.

All institutions within the consortium have a long tradition regarding teaching and research in topics that are relevant to the Euroculture programme.

In the Euroculture consortium the following universities are joined:

European partners:
Deusto - Bilbao (Spain)
Groningen (the Netherlands)
Göttingen (Germany)
Krakow (Poland)
Olomouc (Czech Republic)
Strasbourg (France)
Udine (Italy)
Uppsala (Sweden)

Non-European partners:

The partner universities work together to guarantee a common curriculum and a truly international character in the programme.

Students applying and accepted at the University of Groningen make use of the consortium in the following way:

  • the Euroculture student spends the first semester at the University of Groningen (home university);
  • moves to another partner university (host university) in the second semester;
  • participates in the Intensive Programme at one of the European partner universities;
  • during the third semester, the student’s mobility depends on the track chosen, professional (internship) or research, the latter can be taken at either an European partner university or a non-European partner university (for a selected group of students from the EU/EEA);
  • in the fourth semester the Euroculture student returns to either his/her home or host university.

The mandatory mobility is a crucial element in the Euroculture programme. It allows not only for transnational cross-over comparisons of relevant concepts and their understanding in different regions in the world, but also acquaint the Euroculture student with different cultural settings. Therefore, the MA Programme Euroculture offers its students a truly international experience. These settings are of key importance to develop a good understanding of current debates on European integration.
