Hungarian Literary Afternoon  with György Dragomán and Anna Szabó T.

The Finno-Ugrian Studies and the Department of History  organize a workshop on the theme Dictatorship through the eyes of the child. The guest speakers are György Dragomán and Anna Szabó T.

The East-European regional problem of working through the communist past and the universal question of living under suppression as a child will be discussed. Fiction and history will meet at this program as it is organized by scholars coming from the literary studies (Edit Zsadányi)  and history (Monika Baár).

 
György Dragomán’s second novel The White King (2005) recalls many elements of the Ceausescu period in Romania and is represented in the horizon of a child. The novel became a world-wide success and has been translated into more than 30 languages including Dutch (De witte koning 2007, 2011).

Anna T. Szabó is a well-known contemporary poet and writer in Hungary. She focuses on the  problems of women and gender issues.

The workshop is open to the public, everybody is welcome, registration is not necessary.  Participants are welcome to read chapters or poems available on websites of the writers.

Lezing over de Kalevala

Aluralica, de vereniging van oud-studenten van de opleiding Finoegrische talen, organiseert zaterdag 26 mei van 14.30 tot 17.00 uur in het Scandinavisch dorp te Eelderwolde een Kalevalamiddag.

Alexander van Hoboken uit Nijmegen zal dan een lezing houden over het Centrum voor Kalevala en Karelische cultuur 'Juminkeko', over de eerste runozangacademie en over zijn reizen naar Fins en Russisch Karelië in een zoektocht naar het inspirerende van de Kalevala en de cultuur van runozang en orale tradities. Hierbij vertoont hij dia's en laat hij geluidsfragmenten horen.

Programma:
14.30u-15.30u: lezing A. van Hoboken: Had Lönnrot ooit kunnen dromen van een runozangacademie anno nu?
15.30u-16.00u: pauze (voor 2,50 euro is er koffie/thee met koek)
16.00u-17.00u: vervolg lezing

Na de lezing zullen we nog even nazitten met een drankje.
Voor wie zin heeft, is er vanaf 18 uur de mogelijkheid om te genieten van een dinerbuffet à 26,50 euro. Dit is geheel voor eigen rekening en de liefhebbers moeten hiervoor zelf bij het Scandinavisch dorp reserveren.

We verzoeken u zich voor de Kalevalamiddag (lezing) aan te melden, zodat we het Scandinavisch dorp kunnen laten weten hoeveel personen er komen.

Fifth International Symposium June 2011

From 7 to 9 June 2011, the Fifth International Symposium on Finno-Ugric Languages was organized in Groningen (The Netherlands). The theme was: The Finno-Ugric contribution to international research on folklore, myth and cultural identity. We plan to publish a peer-reviewed, selected part of the papers. Please, send a draft of your paper  to c.t.hasselblatt[at]rug.nl before the 15th of October, 2011. Length should be about 5000 words max. You will find the style sheet at the symposium site under proceedings.
