The University
The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (
http://www.uab.cat
) was founded in 1968. It is therefore a young university, but in its short history it has moved forward at a rapid pace. It currently employs about 2,908 academic and research staff, grouped into 54 departments, and provides tuition to over 55,000 students. It has been awarded various national certificates for teaching quality and for its commitment to research development.
At the moment the university offers about 77 Diploma and B.A. study programmes 384 Masters and Postgraduate courses and 90 Doctoral Programmes, and participates in initiatives to promote the recruitment and training of young researchers and the funding of new research projects.
Teacher educationThe UAB members who will join this project work at four of the departments in the Faculty of Education (
http://dewey.uab.es/
), which is committed to teacher education since its foundation and is responsible forimplementing various pre-service and in-service teacher training programmes for primary, secondary and adults teachers and teacher trainers in the format of Diploma, Postgraduate and Masters courses. The Faculty has also some experience in the development of joint studies with both South American and European universities. Some Faculty members collaborate with the Catalan Department of Education in the elaboration of curricular proposals and in the design of teaching materials and national achievement tests
