About JoMiTE

Joint Models in Teacher Education

In 2007, universities throughout Europe started the JoMiTE initiative. Originally intended to start a joint master in teacher education, it soon evolved to a network focusing on teacher education on several levels. Currently, JoMiTE is an international network of Teacher Education Institutions, focusing on master level and above, with the aim to increase the possibilities of teachers and teacher educators (in secondary education) to improve their professional develpment through international cooperation. Cultural and educational differences are for our network key values in the learning process. Although partners recognize and respect teacher competences that are not (directly) related to academic competences, the focus in this network is to stress those competenties that have an academic component. Therefor cooperation in research, especially done by teachers in secondary education, and supporting PhD's is for us important. The network seeks where possible the cooperation with schools as partners in the development process.

This can be done by the following activities:

  • Exchanging master students
  • Exchanging staff
  • Developing and exchange of knowledge about teacher education
  • Supporting a research network in different fields (subject didactics per subject, school management)
  • A joint PhD program for teachers in secondary education

Joining JoMiTE

Universities (Teacher Education Institutions) who want to join JoMiTE are welcome, when they:

  • Support the above stated mission
  • Offer teacher education (in secondary education) at master level
  • Cooperate with schools in developing and concudting teacher education for initial and in-service teacher education
  • Support an international research network of teachers in secondary education

EU support

The European Union granted two projects within this initiative:
