The curriculum

The JoMiTE program consists of 60 ECTS (one full time study year), which is solely for Teacher Education. Studying for the subject is not included in JoMiTE and is done besides, or before, the JoMiTE program.

Of the 60 ECTS, 30 ECTS will be done at the home university. The other 30 ECTS will be done in two different countries (15 ECTS each). The program consists of four blocks:

  • Teacher as Instructor: The teacher as instructor is leads a group of learners, teaches those learners the subject on their level and activates their learning (approximately September/October).
  • Teacher as Coach: The teacher as coach organizes and facilitates a safe and motivating learning environment and promotes learning taking account of personal and cultural differences of learners based on psychological insights (approximately November/January).
  • Teacher as Developer: The teacher as developer develops and evaluates learning environments in the broadest sense with regard to personal and cultural differences between learners (approximately February/March).
  • Teacher as Researcher: The teacher is the bridge between the scientific field of his subject and the learner and is able to introduce learners into research approaches. He identifies critical situation in his class or school, analyzes the core of this situation, with reference to research literature, and presents the results and evidence based recommendations to colleagues and other stakeholders. He is a critical consumer of relevant research literature (approximately April/June).

Each university is free to fill the blocks with their own type of courses, as long as the objectives of each of the blocks are met. These objectives are based on the common comptences.

Within each block, the student teachers follows courses at the university AND will do teaching practice in schools. The language to be used in the schools is English. If the student teacher speaks the local language, it is, of course, also possible to teach in that language. For students who teach a modern foreign language might use their target language.

Within a few weeks, the curriculum can be found here.
