Students' research

Teachers in secondary education should not only be able to “teach very well”, but also to redesign and innovate their education in a structured and analytical way following a research approach. We find it therefore necessary that teachers are not only prepared in following research approaches in their discipline, but also in their educational part of the master. Following a research approach promotes the development of future teachers as reflective practitioners. We have had long discussions about this approach and how to promote it. This has resulted in specific learning objectives per block in the curriculum framework with regard to educational research approaches. Besides the educational research approach, we also believe that teachers should be the bridge between the scientific field of their subject and the learners. This means that teachers should be able to introduce learners to the type of research in the specific field and should be able to explain innovations in the scientific field to their learners.

We developed a research course for students within the JoMiTE program, but also for other student teachers who are interested in international cooperation. This has been extensively evaluated which is reflected in the presentation of two research papers.
