Structure of the Bachelor
The Bachelor's degree programme at the University of Groningen consist of two parts. The main part of the Bachelor programme consists of 150 ECTS (= 2½ years). Your study department determines the content of these 150 ECTS. For most studies this part consists of a Major. The remaining six months of the Bachelor's degree programme consists of courses that belong to a 'free' Minor. You determine the content of these 30 ECTS.
For who?
Almost all faculties work with the Major/Minor system. Only the Faculty of Medical Sciences does not participate. There are certain studies that have a so called 'civil effect', like Medical Pedagogy ('Orthopedagogiek'), Law and Medical Science, that can deviate from the central structure for the Minors. You can get more information on this at your own study. At the Faculty of Law you have to follow a so called 'free bachelor' to be able to do a Minor.
Free space in the Bachelor
If you have the space in your Bachelor to follow a minor, you can choose:
1. a University Minor
2. a Faculty Minor
3. your own combination of modules
4. to take the ECTS abroad to another university
