Admission rules for the Master program

You are a student from outside the Netherlands and want to enter a Master course at our university. There is general information about entering our university (click here). We expect you to read it. Also, some of the information for Exchange Students might be of interest (click here ).

To be admitted to the Master program Computing Science you need to use the online application system.

You have to have a bachelor degree in Computer Science or in Computing Science at a level comparable with a bachelor degree Computer Science at a Dutch university. To be able to determine this we have to get from you the following:

  1. a copy of your bachelor certificate (in English)
  2. a list of all courses (credits and grades) that you followed
  3. of the computer science related courses we want a description of its contents, so we can determine your CS background more precisely. Think about a text of 30/40 words, mainly consisting of the concepts treated. This for each relevant course.

For admission to the programmes, taught in English, you will need to prove your proficiency in English by means of one of the following tests (the test cannot be older than two years):

• The International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Minimum score: overall IELTS band score of 6.5 with no band less than 6.0.
• The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): Paper based (min. total score 580, min. section score 55) / Computer based (min. total score 237, min. section score 21) / Internet based (min. total score 92, min. section score 21). Please ask the ETS to send us the test score report using institution code 7191.
• Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English - CAE (Certificate of Advanced English)
• English language test – University of Groningen Language Center – section scores C2 or C1 and one section score B2. This all because of the large differences in educational systems around the world.

See for instance http://www.ets.org/toefl/ for information about the new TOEFL test from ETS (Educational Test Services)..

When we receive all these documents a committee will convene. They decide about admitting you to our master program (as described in section 3.1 of the general document above). You will be notified of that decision.

Then you finally decide whether you want to enroll, and if so the official subscription papers will be send to you. The tuition fee for a foreign student from a EU country is 1440 euro if younger than 30, and 1900 euro otherwise. A foreign student from outside of the EU has a tuition fee of 5000 euro.

More information about admission can be given by the study advisor (director of study).
