Portal menuIdeally, the main menu consists of a single bar. The SECTION MENU drops down when the cursor moves over the bar. Clicking on an item in the section menu takes you straight to those pages. Some main menus consist of a double bar. In these cases, the section menu is not a drop-down menu. The section menu is revealed on the left-hand side of the screen by clicking on the relevant item in the main menu. BreadcrumbsImmediately to the left under the portal menu are the ‘breadcrumbs’. They record the ‘path’ you have followed within the portal, and by clicking on these breadcrumbs you can go back one or more steps. Section menuThe vertical section menu is located on the left under the breadcrumbs. The top line tells you which section you are in; this section is usually part of the submenu structure in the portal bar. The main menu item in the portal bar that you used to get to the current page has changed colour and is now underlined. If there are subsections, they will appear under the section title. Clicking on the subjects will take you to the pages in question. The section menu also includes ‘functions’, for example: printing. Associated linksThere may also be links on the right of the screen. These provide additional information for the page you are viewing. This is a simple way of referring to relevant additional information which is not necessarily on the RUG website. BannersBanners are also located on the right-hand side of the screen. These always show an image with a short introductory text. Banners are used to publicise certain events or websites. These links provide additional information for the page you are viewing.
