The principal colour of the University house style is a specific red (PMS 186), which is referred to as ‘RUG red’.
‘RUG red’ can be combined with the colours from the primary colour palette.
In principle, the secondary colour palette must not be used.
It has been developed for special applications (e.g. gold for degree certificates) and future house style features.
The colours in the palette of the University of Groningen are a ‘translation’ of the colours in the original 1614 coat of arms.
Colour systemsThe primary and secondary colour palettes have been specified for several colour systems:
N.B.The colours specified have been selected ‘by hand’. They have not been created by means of software conversion. The CMYK value for ‘RUG red’, for example, is different from the value generated by Adobe Photoshop through PMS-CMYK conversion. If one or more of the colours are used in a non-specified colour system, the PMS value must be approximated as closely as possible.
