The core of the educational vision of the University of Groningen is:
"Every university student is in the right place in Groningen.
The University offers education that is tailored to the talents, ambitions and goals of individual students, thus optimizing their chances on the job market."
Honours College for talented and ambitious students
This is why the University of Groningen wants to offer talented and ambitious students extra challenges in the shape of Honours Programmes.
These Honours Programmes are part of the University of Groningen Honours College.
The College will offer talented students an environment where they can critically examine knowledge and are challenged to develop new insights and innovative ways of thinking.
There will be intensive contact among students and with prominent academics.
In addition, numerous extra activities will be organized by and for the students.
This will generate a community within which talent can develop optimally.
What students of the Honours College will learn
The College will teach students:
-
to master their discipline and exercise it at a higher level
-
to develop a wide view and look beyond the boundaries of their discipline
-
to play a prominent role within and outside their own discipline and make a significant contribution to society.
Honours Programme alongside the regular degree programme
The Honours College will exist alongside the regular degree programmes (see also Honours Programme design).
Talented students will thus remain part of their own degree programmes and will not be a separate group.
This is a conscious decision on the part of the University.
The contact between honours students and regular students is important to enable both groups to get the best out of themselves.
