Ageing of populations is at the forefront of every society’s present and future concerns. Ageing affects society and people. An ageing population has consequences for the labour market, the housing market, pensions to be paid, and health care and support to be provided. Elderly people have specific needs and demands regarding their housing, (health) care and support, but also regarding their daily activities (voluntary work; taking care of grandchildren; leisure activities). In addition, the (cultural) meaning given to being healthy, to ageing and being elderly differ per generation and socio-cultural context.
