In the Research Master in Regional Studies: Spaces and Places, Analysis and Intervention you combine a strong focus on research with knowledge of and interest in one of the core themes: economic geography, cultural geography, planning and demography. In addition, the Research Master is interdisciplinary, because it concentrates on the interactions between population, economy, regional culture and planning.
The specialisations aim at promising academics who want to specialize in the role of researcher in a variety of organisations. With its open structure, the programme provides ample opportunity for students to focus on themes of their special interest. It combines a solid training in research methods – both qualitative and quantitative - with a strong focus on participating in actual research. It is strong in theory without being theoretical. It invites and triggers students to go beyond book-knowledge and to contribute to actual change. Rather than research-for-its-own-sake, the research is linked to either policy making or interventions and actions.
The programme is the natural follow-up to the Challenge trajectory of the Bachelor’s degree and is ideally suited to those who aspire to a PhD. Even if you do not have a PhD in mind, this Research Master might be the ideal preparation for those jobs in the labour market where analytical and research skills are important. The programme is especially suited to students with a strong theoretical or methodological orientation. You will also meet the academic community through conference visits and a mandatory stay in an academic institute abroad, as well as by active participation in the scientific debate around a specific topic.
