Admission to the PhD programme is selective. Candidates are selected on the basis of:

• scientific background, i.e. a Master's degree in a relevant discipline (Spatial Sciences, Social Sciences)
• excellent research qualities
• information provided in the PhD application form, including diplomas, letters of recommendation, etc.
• motivation for PhD research
• available funding; in case of external funding, proof of the funding must be provided before the start of the PhD training programme
• a research proposal approved by the Board of the Graduate School.

Preferably, PhD candidates will be trained within a Research Master’s degree. Research Master’s students interested in following the PhD programme, however, still have to apply.
