Admission of students

The program can be followed by students who meet the following admission criteria, as evaluated by an Admission Committee. Prerequisites for admission are:

  1. A Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or Medical Sciences obtained from a university in the Netherlands; or another Bachelor’s diploma from a health science-oriented program that is evaluated as suitable by the Admissions Board.
  2. Sufficient knowledge of the English language for non-native speakers.
  3. Positive motivation and attitude towards a career in science or science-related positions in society.

Admission to the program is based on performance during the bachelor’s study and a standardized selection procedure, including an entrance exam and an interview. Applicants should have qualifications that justify the expectation of the successful completion of the program in due course. The qualifications include knowledge and experience in relevant theories and statistics, and experience with statistical software packages. Each applicant is subjected to an entrance exam to test the knowledge on Psychology, Psychosocial factors and/or Medical Science, and knowledge on research methodology and medical statistics, including practical experience with SPSS. Foreign applicants will be given the opportunity to perform the test through the internet. Before the test, applicants will be informed on the required material for the entrance exam.

The Research Master’s degree program in Clinical and Psychosocial Epidemiology is a ‘Top Master’s’ degree program, and students will need to show a real interest in these areas during their Bachelor’s degree program.

In principal, the Admissions Board judges the student’s fulfilment of the requirements on the basis of documents sent by the student and the results of the entrance exam. If the Admissions Board judges that the student is in principle eligible for admission to the Research Master’s degree program, the student will be invited to attend an interview with the Admissions Board. In this interview students can clarify their motives for joining the Research Master’s degree program and their aspirations. In addition, to evaluate their presentation skills, an oral presentation of the Bachelor’s thesis will form part of the interview.

The program is open to Bachelor’s graduates from inside and outside the Netherlands; international applications will be encouraged. Therefore the entire program will be taught in English.
