TCCM (Erasmus Mundus Master)

European Master in Theoretical Chemistry and Computer Modelling

The Erasmus Mundus Program in Theoretical Chemistry and Computational Modeling (TCCM) is a two-year research oriented master program for talented and motivated students. The main goals of the program are to:

  • Establish a European standard for research-oriented studies in TCCM.
  • Prepare experts in the use and development of computational techniques in molecular sciences, to work with innovative pharmaceutical, petrochemical and new-materials industries.
  • Prepare students for doctoral studies in Chemistry, Physics, Life or Material Sciences.
  • Promote international mobility of research students.
  • Offer to students from a wide range of countries (including non-European ones) a highly qualified title at the post-bachelor level.

The master can be accessed by students having a Bachelor in Chemistry, in Physics or in Material Science or any equivalent level if authorized by the legislation of the corresponding European Country. Other scientific bachelors can be accepted, provided the student takes complementary levelling courses, under the supervision of his local tutor. The application deadline for the TCCM program is 08 February 2011 for applications from within Europe and 22 January 2011 for applications from outside Europe.

Participating universities

TCCM is a joint project between seven European universities. The participants are Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (coordinator), Spain; Universidad de Valencia, Spain; University of Groningen, The Netherlands; Katholic University Leuven, Belgium; Università degli Studi de Perugia, Italy; Université Paul Sabatier, Toulouse, France; Universidade do Porto, Portugal.

Students will start the programme at one of these universities, follow a four-week Intensive Course in another country and spend at least 10 weeks at a partner university. Upon completion of the program, students will be awarded double degrees from two partner universities.

Erasmus Mundus

Erasmus Mundus Masters are funded by the European Union. Together with 18 other Master programs, TCCM has in 2009 been selected as a new Erasmus Mundus Master program that will be funded for five years (with possible extension of another 5 years). The competition was fierce; only about 20% of the proposals for new Erasmus Mundus Masters have been awarded funding.

Erasmus Mundus aims to enhance the quality of higher education in Europe, and to promote dialogue and understanding between people and cultures through cooperation with third-world countries. In addition, it contributes to the development of human resources and the international cooperation capacity of higher education institutions in non-European countries by increasing mobility between the European Union and these countries. TCCM falls under ‘Action 1’ of Erasmus Mundus; joint programs of outstanding quality at masters and doctoral levels including scholarships/fellowships to participate in these programs.
