General information


 
The Graduate School of Medical Sciences (GSMS) trains and educates excellent researchers and promotes excellent research. The GSMS is responsible for all research, Research Master and PhD training, including the 'Junior Scientific Masterclass’, a special track for talented medical students, within the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG). 

 
Research within the GSMS ranges from fundamental to patient-oriented (clinical) research. The GSMS deals with four main scientific areas, which originate in four Research Institutes. In each Research Institute the UMCG focus on Healthy Ageing is approached from the institutes central theme (see below). The four Research Institutes are:
 
(central theme: Behavioural and Cognitive Neurosciences)
 
(central theme: Chronic Diseases and Drug Exploration)
 
(central theme: Health Research and Epidemiology)
 
(central theme: Biomaterials)
 
*The Research Institute BCN-BRAIN of the UMCG participate in the Research School Behavioral and Cognitive Science (BCN) of the University of Groningen
