IntroductionGeneral Information
In the four year PhD degree programme, students conduct their own research within a relevant theme, while the Graduate School provides a balanced mix of expert supervision and tailor made postgraduate training for them. The main task of a PhD student is the researching and writing of a good scholarly thesis which can be completed within the allotted period of time (mostly four years). After a succesful defence of the thesis, you will be awarded a PhD degree. PhD students receive a formal programme of training alongside the writing of a PhD thesis. PhD students in the Groningen School for the Humanities (in a four-year, full-time PhD position) are required to dedicate around 800 hours (28-30 ECTS), which includes preparation, attendance and follow-up work, specifically to academic training, either within the GSH, or in (inter)national Research Schools.
