Organization
Hello everyone,
We are the organizing committee of this year’s Medical Sciences Summer School on Global Health. We have been very busy setting this up ever since last September. These organizations consisted mostly of figuring out which course the Summer School will be taking this year. For the first time we will become a Research Summer School. The transition from a clinical to a research Summer School has been a relatively big one. 2012 will be focusing on Global Health rather than Reproductive Health and research rather than clinical cases. Of course this doesn’t mean that there won’t be any clinical cases, just not as much as during the previous Summer Schools.
Since we’ve been working on this project since September, it is about time we introduce ourselves! We are six medical students studying at the University of Groningen. For the next few months we will continue to be the organizing committee of the Summer School on Global Health 2012. Our committee is part of the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA). The IFMSA is an international student committee with the ultimate goal to improve global health. We are all looking forward to welcoming you into our city and our university. We are confident that this year’s Summer School will be great!
Our committee includes:
Maike Nillesen is our chairman. She leads our committee and makes sure everything runs smoothly during our meetings and preparations for the Summer School.
Nadine Dijks is our secretary. She is responsible for the contacts with the participants and reads all the applications. Furthermore, she will be in contact with the embassies to take care of visa for the participants.
Lisa Koops is our treasurer. She is in charge of our budget and controls every penny that is being spent on the Summer School. On top of that, she helps the PR-manager in finding sponsors.
Nienke Tibben is the educational program coordinator. She is responsible for the entire educational program. Her job includes finding professors and doctors who are willing to provide us with interesting lectures.
Esmee Runhart is the social program coordinator. She will be organizing the social events during the weekends and in the evenings.
Eva Boorsma is our PR-manager. She will make sure that as many people as possible will know about this Summer School. She is in charge of posters and the website. Finding sponsors is also one of her tasks.
We hope to see you in July 2012!
