Critical Appraisal of Literature
This course is intended in the first place for PhD students beginning their PhD training. The aim of this course is to teach PhD students to assess quality and content of research papers. At the end of the course the student is able to critically analyze the contents of the paper and is able to assess the quality (level of evidence) of the study performed. Students will be able to participate successfully in journal discussions in their own research group. The course consists of 8 sessions of 2-3 hours in which research designs are critically evaluated. For each meeting, the student will prepare 2 papers – provided by the lecturer in advance – by critically reading and assessing them. During each session the students will discuss their assessment of the papers in small groups. Finally, a group discussion will be held about the quality of the paper and the assessment of criteria.
