Formerly people often found answers to existential questions in their traditional, inherited religion. Nowadays, however, the position of religion and spirituality has changed considerably, and so has the role of the church and of the clergy. while there is a great supply in the field of “meaning and world view”. This may be observed in decreased church attendances, whereas simultaneously there is an enormous interest in spiritual literature.
People search for life orientation and meaning in many different ways. This is of great consequence to the spiritual care giver’s discipline and profession.
