This is to invite you to the next Agricolameeting on 15 February, 16.00-18.00, Oude Boteringestraat 38, room 130. Our colleague Mark Thomson is going to speak for us about:

Ship and Iterate: Colonialism as a Recursive Process

This paper argues that colonialism is a recursive process. That is, to draw from the concept of recursion in computer science, colonialism resembles a process in which the output of a function becomes the input of the next iteration of the function. The paper offers a review of historiography, old and new, that addresses this theme. Ultimately it proposes that we see all colonies as colonies of other colonies.
