Everyone has an opinion about religion, but only a few have the expertise to properly interpret this complex phenomenon. Our interdisciplinary Master’s programmes train students to become specialists in the field of religion and culture. We offer five unique English taught Master’s degree programmes that concentrate on the dynamic interrelationship between religion and culture. Each programme has a clear individual focus.
We are proud to be ranked as the best teaching and research centre for religion in the Netherlands. We are committed to highest standards in critical academic research, and we translate our research into stimulating and cutting-edge teaching programmes. We train students to be independent and critical observers of the place of religion in its cultural and historical context, and we prepare them for the job market. Half of the teaching staff is international, and a large percentage of the Master’s students come from abroad. We are committed to the idea of an international classroom and work with small classes that provide close collaboration between teachers and students. The Faculty is a major hub in a large international network of partner universities; as a student, you can directly profit from these networks that connect Groningen to research and teaching centres worldwide.
