Visitors programme


The GCL has set up a comprehensive, five-year visitors programme. With it, the GCL offers the opportunity to academics from other universities to collaborate with the Groningen research community and aims to stimulate international collaboration, coupling the Groningen research projects with relevant research networks. 

Visiting professors

Visiting professors are appointed in Groningen for a duration of 2 or 3 months a year for 2 or more years. The exact duration is determined in consultation with the individual candidate. During that period she or he will carry out research and to teach in the relevant field of study, promote and/or supervise international publications and create liaisons between the departments and international counterparts. Currently the following persons are appointed as visiting professor:

  • Prof. Michael Bohlander (Durham University, United Kingdom), visiting professor criminal law;
  • Prof. Suzanne Comtois (Université de Sherbrooke, Canada), visiting professor public law;
  • Prof. Francesco Giglio (University of Manchester, United Kingdom), visiting professor private law;
  • Prof. Hanri Mostert (University of Cape Town, South Africa), visiting professor private law;
  • Prof. Sir Richard Plender (Judge of the High Court, Queen's Bench Division, United Kingdom), visiting professor economic and business law;
  • Prof. Mauro Zamboni (Stockholm University, Sweden), visiting professor legal theory;
  • Prof. Dietmar von der Pfordten (Göttingen University), visiting professor Law and Governance, in particular: Philosophical Aspects of Governance
