Prof. Dietmar von der PfordtenVisiting professor philosophy of law
Dietmar von der Pfordten is Professor of Philosophy of Law and Social Philosophy at the University of Göttingen and there the Director of the Section for Philosophy of Law and Social Philosophy. He studied law, philosophy and political science in Munich, London and Tübingen and did a PhD in law and another in philosophy at the University of Munich. He was assistant professor at the University of Göttingen since 1993 and there finished 1998 his Habilitation on “Rechtsethik”. He was visiting scholar at Harvard University, Columbia University and NYU. In 1999 he became full professor at the University of Erfurt and 2002 at the University of Göttingen. He is member of the Academy of Thuringia in Erfurt and of the German Federal Commission to advise the German Government in cases where artworks which have been taken away by the NS-Regime are reclaimed by their owners. He is the author of several books, among it “Description, Evaluation, Praeskription”, Berlin 1993, “Ökologische Ethik”, Reinbek 1996, “Rechtsethik”, München 2001, “Menschenwürde, Recht und Staat bei Kant”, Paderborn 2009, “Normative Ethik”, Berlin 2010, “Suche nach Einsicht”, Hamburg 2010, and of various articles in the field of ethics, political philosophy and legal philosophy.
