Research on Ageing and Wellbeing NetworkThe Research on Ageing and Wellbeing Network, embedded in the Faculty of Spatial Sciences, is a group of international researchers from different disciplinary backgrounds as well as practitioners with an interest in Ageing and Wellbeing. In the Faculty, the network facilitates meetings for researchers who address ageing and wellbeing in their research at different spatial scales and from different perspectives, for example housing and real estate, participation in urban planning, everyday experiences, or inclusion and exclusion. The network is interested in building bridges between different disciplines and between research, policy and lay audiences. In addition, the network actively engages undergraduate and graduate students through teaching activities and research projects. In so doing, the network complements and extends the work conducted by HAPS. On December 7th and 8th 2011, the Research on Ageing and Wellbeing Network organised its inaugural workshop ‘Promoting quality practice. Challenges and practicalities of engaging older adults in research’. This workshop included presentations and practical forums by internationally renowned scholars in the fields of Ageing and Geography. In keeping with the University of Groningen’s focus on healthy ageing, the workshop is organized for (young) researchers and PhD students who are currently, or planning to, conduct research with older adults on all spatial scale levels. The Workshop is motivated by the need to advance quality research into ageing issues whilst protecting the rights and welfare of elderly research participants.
