Master's of Science in Population Studies

Population Studies is an international one-year Master's of Science programme. The objective of the MSc in Population Studies is to train students to become experts in the field of population studies.

To understand population dynamics in its historical and institutional context, knowledge of theories, methods and skills are required.  In the Master's the focus is on the study of life events, such as birth, marriage, divorce, changes in health, migration and death. The programme focuses on demographic phenomena in Western and non-Western countries.

The study of demography is simultaneously concrete and broad - historical, economic, medical and societal developments influence and are reflected in the composition of populations.  Demographic topics are studied in the MSc in Population Studies by placing them within theoretical frameworks; by studying  them through the research process - including data collection, questionnaire construction and interviewing of respondents; by applying techniques to analyse data on these topics; and by reporting on the basis of your own study.

The coordinator of the MSc in Population Studies is Dr Fanny Janssen.
