Exchange students enrolling in the Faculty of Spatial Sciences will participate in courses offered by or through the International School of Spatial Policy Studies. The International School currently offers the following courses:
- Spatial Problems and Spatial Policies: The Dutch Experience (12 weeks, 10 EC, September-November and February-April, Bachelor's level and Master's level).
- International School Group Project (12 weeks, 10 EC, September-November and February-April, Bachelor's level and Master's level).
Other course options are:

Regular courses in English within the Faculty of Spatial Sciences. The Faculty of Spatial Sciences offers education and research in the subject areas of Human Geography (Economic Geography and Cultural Geography), Urban and Regional Planning, Environmental and Infrastructure Planning, and Demography. Most of the courses in English are Master’s level courses, open to MSc students. Sometimes entry requirements or other restrictions apply. In general, however, exchange students visiting the Faculty of Spatial Sciences will be able to participate in these courses if their academic level is adequate and if a limited number of entry requirements are met.

Independent studies within the Faculty of Spatial Sciences, supervised by a staff member of the Faculty of Spatial Sciences. This option is only open to students from partner universities willing to host Faculty of Spatial Sciences students on the same conditions (e.g., universities participating in the NEURUS network). The capacity for independent study supervision is restricted.
- Regular courses offered in the Dutch language within the Faculty of Spatial Sciences.
- Regular courses offered in English at other Faculties of the University of Groningen. Usually, content-specific entry requirements, capacity limits or other restrictions apply. Exchange students accepted at the Faculty of Spatial Sciences are expected to take most of their courses at the Faculty of Spatial Sciences. Access to courses offered elsewhere in the University of Groningen must be arranged through the international coordinator at the Faculty of Spatial Sciences (iofss@rug.nl)
- Regular courses offered in the Dutch language at other Faculties of the University of Groningen.
- Language courses in various languages and at various levels are offered by the University of Groningen's Language Centre.
