Economic Geography

The Department of Economic Geography consists of 15 staff members, including scientific researchers, Ph.D. students and one post-doc. The department accommodates Chairs of Economic Geography (professor Pellenbarg), Regional Labour market analysis (professor van Dijk), Real Estate (professor Van der Vlist) and Methods of Spatial Research (professor Folmer) and the Endowed Chair of Economic Geography (prof. McCann). In the near future, a Chair of Planning, Development and Management of Work Locations will be added.

The department organizes two Master of Science programs: Economic Geography and Real Estate. The department also contributes to the Bachelor of Human Geography and Planning, in which every year economic-geography courses are taught.

Furthermore, the department contributes substantially to the research production of the faculty through its research program Explaining Socio-Economic Change. In this program, two themes are central: Firm demography (regional analysis of founding, closing and migration of firms) and regional labour market dynamics. The department also conducts research in the real estate field.
