Physics of Organic Semiconductors

Mission Statement

Presently, the research on organic semiconductors is focused on their use in light-emitting diodes (LEDs), plastic electronic components as field-effect transistors (FETs) and photovoltaic devices. In the next decades the field of organic semiconductors is expected to develop from the present devices as LEDs and FETs into electronic components in which the functionality is concentrated in only one or a few organic molecules. Since nature provides excellent examples of functional molecules many of those will have a biological background. The research group studies fundamental processes as charge and energy transport in these materials in order to develop novel molecularly based devices.
