Themes

The current research domains of the research groups of the CBN can be schematically divided in

1. Information processing and input pathways to the brain,

2. Central nervous system processing and integration,

3. Output mechanisms of behaviour and physiology.

The research group Behavioural Biology (group Groothuis) is focused on development and aging of behaviour, within a functional and evolutionary framework.

The research group Behavioural Physiology (group Koolhaas) investigates the link between CNS mechanisms leading to behavioural and physiological expression of emotional behaviours.

The research group Chronobiology (group Beersma) is concentrating on the regulation and dysregulation of temporal aspects of behaviour.

The research group Molecular Chronobiology (group Merrow) investigates the molecular processes and regulatory mechanisms of biological clocks, predominantly in unicellular organisms.

The research group Molecular Neurobiology (group Luiten) is focused on neuronal mechanisms of integration and normal and deranged neuronal processing.

The research group Neuroendocrinology (group van Dijk) studies the interactions between the CNS and hormonal output signals of the brain with emphasis on metabolic control functions.
