ExpertiseBiological clock, chronobiology Curriculum vitaeMartha Merrow (1957) has been professor of Molecular and Genetic Chronobiology since 2006. Merrow studied Biology at Middlebury College and subsequently conducted her PhD research in the field of immunology at Tufts University Medical School. She then became a researcher at Dartmouth Medical School (USA) and the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich, where she began to specialize in chronobiology. She came to Groningen on a Rosalind Franklin Fellowship. Merrow is an expert on the biological clock and the resulting behaviour. Her research shows that many people have great trouble adapting to the system of summer and winter time, and she also claims that school days should start later to take teenagers’ biological clocks into account. In 2011 she received a substantial grant from Technology Foundation STW. See alsoPreviously in the news
