PhD vacanciesVacancies for PhD positionsMost PhD projects are funded by individual research groups. Candidates apply for this particular project, and the best candidate for the position is chosen. In most cases, the candidate gets a contract for four years as an employee at the University of Groningen (rather than a scholarship). These PhD positions are advertised whenever one becomes available, either because a PhD student has finished his project and his position becomes vacant, or because the research group has attracted external funding (for example by the European Union). PhD positions and other vacancies at the RUG are advertised on the RUG website as well as on Academic Transfer, the job board for all Dutch vacancies in science. If you know a professor in whose group you would like to do your PhD, you can also contact him or her to ask whether any PhD positions in the group are available.
