VIDI grant awarded to Jan-Willem Romeijn

Date:October 11, 2010
Dr Jan-Willem Romeijn's grant application for a VIDI for the project 'What are the chances? An explication of single-case probability' has been awarded by the NWO. A short abstract of this research project:

Physicians, politicians, investors and researchers, they all make use of chances. But what exactly do these chances tell us? The researchers of this project formulate an answer to this question, and on the basis of that they improve the methods by which chances are determined.

Of a total of 78 submissions 8 applications have been awarded. This is a great achievement of the winning RUG teacher of the year 2010. In the recently (9 Oct) broadcasted episode 13 of University of Groningen television and internet programme Adams Appel, he speaks about chances (in Dutch).
