Living expenses rise by 193 euro (5,0 percent) on average

Mainly due to higher energy costs

Date:February 16, 2012

The living expenses for owner-occupiers will this year rise by 193 euros (5.0 percent) on average, mainly due to higher energy expenses and the added tax for home-owners.  This is one of the conclusions of the annual research by Research Center COELO (Local Government Economics) at the Faculty of Economics and Business.

The average home-owner's living expenses will this year be 4,041 euros, in addition to his mortgage payments. That is 12 percent of the average income after tax. It is therefore not surprising that the rise in living expenses draws so much attention. The COELO Living Expenses Monitor 2012 provides an overview.
