The President of De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB), Klaas Knot (1967), has been appointed honorary professor of Economics of Central Banking at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) of the University of Groningen, where he will regularly give guest lectures. Knot was professor of Monetary and Banking Institutions at FEB until he was appointed President of DNB last summer.
FEB Dean Harry Garretsen: ‘As soon as our colleague Klaas Knot’s appointment at DNB was announced, we realized that we also wanted to retain him for FEB. It is a known fact that Klaas is proud to be a Groningen alumnus and we in turn are proud of his appointment. The new chair in Economics of Central Banking is intended to increase the visibility of monetary economics, a field that has always been very important at our Faculty.’
Prominent Groningers
Knot is no exception among the current top of the Dutch administrative and financial field when it comes to both his age and his University of Groningen degree – a striking number of his contemporaries and fellow alumni can be found in top positions, for example at the Ministry of Finance (Focco Vijselaar –1971), the IMF (Menno Snel – 1970), the European Commission (Maarten Verwey – 1970) and (Olaf Sleijpen – 1970).
